Condition: There is undulation throughout each artwork, with handling creases and fold marks in places. All works exhibit discoloration due to aging, ink fading, and mottled staining. Some works show slight scuff marks, ink cracking, and very minor ink loss. There is staining due to aging and stains both on the exterior and interior of the original case.

The portfolio Jazz, distinguished by its vivid colors and dynamic motifs, was created using Henri Matisse’s innovative "cut-outs". Developed in his later years due to physical infirmity, this method allowed Matisse to compose striking compositions through cut paper. Featuring abstract depictions of circus scenes, dance, and mythological motifs rendered using the pochoir (stencil print) technique, the portfolio's bold contrasts evoke a vibrant sense of energy.
The title Jazz suggests a resonance between the improvisational nature of music and visual art, symbolizing a new artistic frontier in Matisse’s creative journey. As a groundbreaking work, it holds a significant place in art history, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of modern art.
