SBI Art Auction is pleased to present the “59th SBI Art Auction｜MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART" on Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15, 2023.
The sale will feature an acrylic painting by KUSAMA Yayoi "Pumpkin" and a wood sculpture by KATO Izumi representing primitive life forms, as well as works by artists who have attracted attention in the domestic and international markets, including NARA Yoshitomo, KYNE, IDA Yukimasa, IMAZU Kei, etc.
From Japanese postwar art, which it showed strong popularity at our latest sale in May, fine works by IMAI Toshimitsu and DOMOTO Hisao will be presented in our lineup. Many works by leading artists from the postwar art of the 1950s to cutting-edge ultra-contemporary art scene will also be featured.
A rare screen print work by Andy WARHOL with Mickey Mouse motif which symbolizes American culture, and Keith Haring's treasured surfboard, which the artist had painted for current owner during his first visit to Japan in 1983 will be on display.Other works, such as Robert Wilson's "Chair for Marin," which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1993, will be introduced for the first time.
