SBI Art Auction is pleased to present the “62nd SBI Art Auction｜MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART" on Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28, at Daikanyama Hillside Forum. As our first attempt, we will simultaneously hold a preview and auction on the weekend. In our first sale of 2024, we will introduce fine pieces of modern art to provide a high-quality art experience in the dialogue of creations in the past, present, and future. It includes works by Japanese artists active in the global contemporary art scene, such as KUSAMA Yayoi's mixed media 'VENUS' (2002), and a work on paper by NARA Yoshitomo (1998) featuring a girl with a provocative gaze, a signature motif of the artist. Moreover, the portrait of a girl peeling fruit by the representative Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste RENOIR (1895) demonstrates his exploration of painting expression through vivid colors and soft brushwork. Also featured is a still-life oil painting by Bernard BUFFET (1966), long appreciated in Japan for its rigid black lines and restrained colors that capture the post-World War II zeitgeist.
The auction will be held on January 27 and 28, on the weekend, and some works can be viewed at the same venue even during the auction. An auction catalogue featuring the NARA’s 1998 work on the cover will be distributed for free at the venue. We eagerly await your visit.
