SBI 아트 옥션 주식회사(본사: 도쿄도 강동구, 대표이사: 후지야마 토모히로)는 2024년 10월 25일(금) 및 26일(토), 도쿄에서 개최 예정인 '제68회 SBI 아트 옥션｜MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART'에 앞서, 2024년 9월 30일(월) 부터 6일(일)까지 서울의 문화 및 예술 복합 공간 '아트 조선 스페이스 (ACS)'에서 첫 번째 해외 순회 프리뷰 'Early Highlight Viewing in Seoul'을 개최할 예정입니다.
당사의 작품 라인업은 일본뿐만 아니라 해외의 컬렉터들로부터 지속적으로 좋은 평가를 받아왔으며, 최근 엔저의 영향으로 일본 아트마켓에 대한 관심이 증가함에 따라 해외로부터의 고액 낙찰이 늘어났습니다. 특히, 올해 3월부터 7월까지 열린 네 차례의 경매를 보면, 해외 고객 낙찰률이 평균적으로 전체 낙찰의 약 50%를 차지하고 있습니다. 이러한 환율 동향이 단순히 구매의 이점에 그치지 않고, 일본 아트를 직접 소장하는 기회가 되었으며, 결과적으로 해외에서의 경매 참가자가 증가하게 되었습니다. 2012년, 당사의 첫 경매 이후, 한국 고객의 낙찰 총액은 홍콩과 대만에 이어 해외에서 세 번째로 높게 기록되었으며, 최근 5년간 일본 다음으로 가장 많은 낙찰 건수와 총액을 기록하고 있습니다. 한국은 일본 아트 마켓에서 중요한 위치를 차지하는 국가 중 하나이며, 최근 메가 갤러리의 진출과 국제 아트 페어 'Frieze' 개최 등으로 한국의 아트 시장이 급성장하고 있는 상황입니다. 이러한 배경에서 저희는 일본의 옥션 하우스로서 서울에서 최신 컨템퍼러리 아트를 전시하는 본 프리뷰 행사의 중요성을 크게 인식하고 있습니다.
이번 프리뷰는 한국의 주요 언론매체인 조선일보 그룹의 아트 미디어 "아트 조선"의 협력으로, 도쿄에서 10월 말 개최 예정인 경매에 출품될 하이라이트 작품 약 30점을 전시합니다. 행사 기간 동안 오프닝 리셉션, 전시 투어, 토크 이벤트 등 다채로운 행사를 기획 중에 있습니다. 자세한 사항은 추후 발표될 보도자료에서 확인하실 수 있습니다.

SBI Art Auction will hold “The 68th SBI Art Auction | MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART” on Friday 25th October and Saturday 26th October 2024. Prior to this auction, we are pleased to announce that we will stage our first ever oversea auction preview, “Early Highlight Viewing in Seoul”. This preview will take a place between Monday 30th September to Sunday 6th October 2024 at Art Chosun Space (ACS), which is a complex space has encouraged modern culture and art through events and exhibitions.
Our modern and contemporary art auction collection fortunately has received good reputations for its quality from not only Japanese clients, but also overseas clients. The current rate of exchange has accelerated purchases at the Japanese art market, and we have observed an increase of high-price-biddings placed by overseas participants. Among these changes, a significant tendency is that an average of the four sales held between March and July of this year shows that overseas bids accounted for approximately 50% of the total amount sold.
These impacts provide a suitable environment encouraging artworks acquisitions and create an opportunity to express the quality of the Japanese art market internationally. There is a tendency that new art collectors have recently registered to attend our auctions.
Since the first sale in 2012, the total auction sales by South Korean clients at our auctions has been the third after Hong Kong and Taiwan. In the last five years, the total number of successful bids and the total auction sales from South Korea have been the largest after Japan among other overseas countries. Considering that South Korea is one of the countries that constitute an important part of our activities, and its art market has been growing rapidly in recent years after the entry of mega international galleries and the holding of the renowned art fair “Frieze” in Seoul, we, as a Japanese auction house, are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for the most up-to-date contemporary art to be exhibited in Seoul.
With the cooperation of ART CHOSUN, an art service company of the Chosun Ilbo Group, a major media outlet in South Korea, this preview will feature approximately 30 highlighted works that will be auctioned at the upcoming sale scheduled to be held in Tokyo at the end of October. A reception, preview tours and a variety of other events are planned during the period. Details will be announced in following press releases to be issued later.
